This morning as I was climbing down the hills after my morning exercise I received a call from Zhao Xian who told me old teacher Chen Ruis passed away this morning at his home in Malacca.
The passing away of our old teacher Chen Ruis is not a surprise because he was already so old. But his attendance at our meeting at Al Famosa gave us some precious time to be with him.
I still remember the day when I went to his house to fetch him for the meeting at Al Famosa together with Chang Er he appeared to be pleased. He was apparently pleased to meet old headmasters Shee Chi Li and Lim Hong Du and many others of Class 1961 again. I think together we reallly had a good time.
His retirement must be a lonely one, partly because of his health and party because of his own choice. I will always remember him as the most scholarly teacher who could play very well the ancient Chinese harp. I saw his performance at the Sultan Jubilee Hall at Muar years ago when he was teaching at CHHS, that was very good.
May he rest in peace.

May he rest in peace. We were privileged to have him as one of our CHHS teachers. His attendance at our reunion in Malacca might well be his last public engagement. We ought to be thankful.
